Mike Mirabella, aka “Papa Mike,” musician, songwriter, and author of children’s books
Over the years Mike Mirabella is known by friends and fans as “Papa Mike” and has been blessed to work with phenomenal colleagues and collaborators while composing, recording and performing his original inspirational compositions. These include Unconditional Love, Special People, Come to The Banquet, All God’s Children Sing and My Jesus Rose On Easter Morning, to name just a few. Mike has also penned a number of children’s songs, many of which have found their way into Mike’s award-winning illustrated children’s books.
Mike wrote the poem “On the Luck of an Irish Sailor” as a young teen and many years later, had it recorded as a song with legendary Irish-born vocalist Shay Black. Ultimately, he decided to create a children’s book based on the song, so in 2016 he published On the Luck of an Irish Sailor, illustrated by the talented Amy O’Hanlon. In 2018, the book was awarded a Moonbeam Children’s Book Awards gold medal for the category of music and drama.
Since his interests are now focused on “books with songs,” today Mike considers himself to be an author-poet-musician; hence, has decided to use “Mirabella Books with Songs” as his trade name. His next book and song combo, Sister Butterfly, is available in e-book and download, with print versions scheduled for mid-2019. Mike is working on a series of books beyond Sister Butterfly. Watch for future news on these books, The Carla Stories, about inclusion, belonging and compassion.
Some of you are aware that Pam and Mike raised two wonderful daughters. Their first, Carla, born with Down syndrome, faced special challenges. But she taught Mike so many lessons about life and human potential; it is impossible to list them all. Although Carla has passed, her inspiration still lives on in the lives she touched. Their second child, Kelly Ann, is married with two children of her own and works in research with disabled children at the Scottish Rite Hospital in Dallas TX
Carla also inspired Pam to become a fierce advocate for the disabled and special needs children in our local schools. Although Carla has passed, the Mirabellas continue their work as champions for kids with special needs. Mike speaks through his music and books, and Pam persists in politics with her determined advocacy and support for families. It’s a mission they could not have dreamed of years ago.
Mike and Pam continue to share what they have learned through their music, stories and speaking engagements. Contact either Mike or Pam if you’d like them to speak to your group or would like to acquire quantities of their children’s books.
